Guild Activities
Resource Days
Guild life runs on a steady rhythm of drop-in and registered events organized by the Program Committee. Each season, the Guild hosts monthly Resource Days in September through November, and in January through May.
These gatherings are the last Saturday of the month at the Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre auditorium (9:00 am – 1:00 pm). Guests are welcome! ($10 at the door; applicable to a new membership if joining by the next month).
Membership account and technology assistance are always available to support attendees. Refreshments are provided courtesy of the local satellite community quilting groups and enjoyed by everyone!
Resource Days offer a full menu to attendees including:
- Featured speaker presentation (remote video access available)
- Mini-skills learning sessions (sign up at the door)
- Library resources ( 200+ volumes; sign out to borrow)
- Event registrations (details, ask questions, sign up/pay in person)
- Block-of-the-month projects (complete a block, you may win them all!)
- Comfort Society exchanges (get supplies to create quilts for donation)
- Guild Project challenges (get info, see demos, ask questions!)
- Free fabric/supplies recycling table (so many treasures!)
The Guild is a welcoming community built on making things side-by-side: experienced quilters and first-timers in the same room, learning from one another.
Workshops, Challenges & Retreats
Throughout the year, we offer a series of Registered Events curated to provide variety, knowledge building, and camaraderie around the love of quilting. Unlike for Resource Days, these events generally require registration and booking online, but if you need a hand, contact the SCQG Event Coordinator:
- Workshops build skills to try new ideas in a hands-on setting; sessions are open to non-members interested in learning and experiencing the Guild
- Challenge events are seasonal to spark ideas for innovation and methods to meet the project criteria; when complete, they are revealed at a Resource Day
- Multi-day retreats also offer extended time for individual and shared projects, providing opportunities for mentoring and tools education through others.
Quilt Show 2027
Every two years, our spectacular quilt show brings this coastal community together in a large public celebration of the craft. Quilts made by Guild members across the Sunshine Coast are displayed for the public to enjoy, with ribbon and raffle winners recognized at the event.
The next show returns to Gibsons, BC on June 25 & 26, 2027. For members it’s a chance to show their work to a wider audience; for visitors it’s an open, welcoming look at what the guild is all about. Work is underway to ensure another resounding success!
Quilting in the Community
Five satellite community quilting groups meet monthly on the coast for social and project days. These groups rotate responsibility for donating refreshments to each Guild Resource Day which is much appreciated by all. See the Contact Us page to get in touch with these groups directly.
We have fun.
We make friends.
We do good.
